General

Estimated Blood Volume (Nadler)

Total blood volume from height, weight and sex.

Education and reference only. Not a substitute for clinical judgement, local policy or product labelling. Always verify before clinical use. Values are calculated in your browser and never stored.

When to use

Use to estimate total blood volume, e.g. for exchange transfusion, plasmapheresis or maximum allowable blood loss calculations.

Why use

Several transfusion and apheresis calculations need an estimate of blood volume.

Critical actions

Nadler equations; output in litres. For neonates/infants use weight-based estimates (e.g. 80–90 mL/kg) instead.
