Iron Deficit (Ganzoni)

Total iron deficit for replacement.

Education and reference only. Not a substitute for clinical judgement, local policy or product labelling. Always verify before clinical use. Values are calculated in your browser and never stored.

When to use

Use to estimate the total iron needed to correct iron-deficiency anaemia and replenish stores, e.g. when planning IV iron.

Why use

It gives a target total iron dose for replacement.

Critical actions

Ganzoni: deficit = weight × (target − actual Hb) × 2.4 + stores. Hb in g/dL; stores ≈500 mg for adults ≥35 kg (use 15 mg/kg if <35 kg). Check the specific IV-iron product's own dosing table too.
